# Background and Development of the Educational Partnership between Phu Sang Wittayakhom School, Thailand, and Chua Chu Kang Secondary School, Singapore

Phu Sang Wittayakhom School, located in Phayao Province, Thailand, places great importance on enhancing the quality of education by developing students’ knowledge, language and communication skills, and 21st-century competencies, while fostering an understanding of linguistic and cultural diversity. Guided by the school’s vision, **“A Learning Hub for the Community, Developing Good Citizens with 21st-Century Skills,”** the school actively promotes international educational partnerships to provide teachers and students with opportunities to exchange experiences, develop their potential, and learn together in a global context.

A significant milestone in the partnership between Phu Sang Wittayakhom School and Chua Chu Kang Secondary School (CCKSS), Singapore, took place on 11 October 2024. On this occasion, Ms. Pathumrat Khamsaen, then Director of Phu Sang Wittayakhom School, led a delegation of 13 school administrators, teachers, and educational personnel on a study visit to Chua Chu Kang Secondary School. The delegation explored the school’s education management system, learning environments, and the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies in teaching and learning. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Mr. Timothy Cheng, Principal of Chua Chu Kang Secondary School, together with the school’s management team and teachers. On the same day, the two schools signed a **Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)** to establish an educational partnership focusing on language and cultural exchanges between students, teacher development, and other areas of educational cooperation in the future.

Following the signing of the MOU, on 2 November 2024, Phu Sang Wittayakhom School appointed two foreign language teachers to accompany seven lower secondary school students to participate in a language and cultural exchange programme with students from Chua Chu Kang Secondary School and Chalermprakiat Srinagarindra School Phayao. The programme was held at Chalermprakiat Srinagarindra School Phayao. This event marked an important step in translating the partnership into practical learning experiences, allowing students to interact, communicate, and learn alongside peers from different cultural backgrounds.

The partnership continued to develop through a more comprehensive exchange programme held on 6–7 November 2025, when Phu Sang Wittayakhom School organised **“The Cooperative and Cultural Exchange Learning Program.”** The programme brought together 39 Grade 9 students from Phu Sang Wittayakhom School and 27 students from Chua Chu Kang Secondary School. Participants engaged in a variety of cultural learning activities that showcased Thai identity and Lanna heritage. These activities included Muay Thai dance, Lanna drum performances, traditional Thai candle dumpling making, Thai standard circle dancing, Thai greetings and self-introductions, krathong making, and traditional Thai pattern painting on floating lanterns. Students also participated in activities introducing Singapore and Chua Chu Kang Secondary School.

In addition, the programme included educational visits to Phu Sang Waterfall National Park, participation in the Loy Krathong Festival at Wat Ban La in Chiang Kham District, volunteer activities at Ban Ko Noi School, and a traditional **“Khan Tok Night”** featuring Lanna food and cultural experiences. These activities provided opportunities for students to learn about local traditions, community life, and cultural values while strengthening friendships between the two schools. The opening ceremony of the programme was presided over by Dr. Chakraphan Phachana, Deputy Director of the Phayao Secondary Educational Service Area Office, while Mr. Somchai Wongchariyakasem, Chief District Officer of Phu Sang, presided over the opening ceremony of the Khan Tok Night.

The development of this partnership demonstrates how the cooperation between the two schools has evolved from establishing institutional connections and exchanging professional experiences among administrators and teachers to implementing sustained, student-centred learning activities. By integrating language learning, cultural heritage, local wisdom, and community-based learning resources, the programmes provide meaningful educational experiences that encourage students to communicate with greater confidence, collaborate effectively, respect cultural differences, and broaden their perspectives on the global community.

Building upon these achievements, Phu Sang Wittayakhom School is scheduled to organise **“The Cooperative and Cultural Exchange Learning Program 2026” on 3–4 November 2026**, continuing its educational partnership with Chua Chu Kang Secondary School, Singapore. The programme aims to strengthen the long-term relationship between the two schools through further language and cultural exchanges involving teachers and students. This initiative represents another important step towards fostering international educational cooperation, developing students’ communication skills and their ability to thrive in multicultural societies, and positioning the school and its surrounding community as learning environments that connect local wisdom with international education. Ultimately, the programme supports the school’s vision of nurturing quality learners who are well-prepared to succeed in the 21st century.
